Ear tubing, or tympanostomy
Recurrent ear inflammations and/or slow healing of ear inflammations (glue ear) are the most common infections experienced by children. For this reason, ear tubing (tympanostomy) is a common operation in children. Under general anaesthesia, a small plastic or metal tube is inserted into the eardrum in order to keep the middle ear aerated.
The operation is performed by a specialist in ear, nose and throat diseases, and the referral for such a procedure must also be written by a specialist in ear, nose and throat diseases.
Pikkujätti medical centres have modern, functional facilities and equipment. After waking from general anaesthesia, the child will remain with the parents/escort in a comfortable recovery room until he/she can be safely discharged from hospital.
